Wanderers Foundation

USING THE POWER OF FOOTBALL TO CREATE CONNECTION, CONFIDENCE, HEALTH AND OPPORTUNITY.

OVERVIEW

At the Wanderers Foundation, we're proud to harness the power of football to transform lives across Western Sydney. Through our three Wanderers Foundation pillars - Female Football, Multicultural Football and All Abilities Football, we've reached thousands of participants from marginalised groups, fostering social connection, confidence, health, and opportunities.

Our programs have broken down barriers, reduced crime, improved school engagement, and built stronger communities, from empowering girls in the elite Girls Academy, to uniting communities through programs like the African Cup and our Weekly Indigenous Football Program.

We recognise the importance of measuring the impact of our Wanderers Foundation Programs and have engaged Impact Institute to identify the areas where we’re having the greatest impact.

  • Health & Wellbeing (e.g., physical/mental health, positive emotions).
  • Skills & Capabilities (e.g., football skills, communication).
  • Access to Services & Opportunities (e.g., career pathways, role models).
  • Economic Benefit (e.g., avoided costs, business growth).

Long-Term Impacts: Improved quality of life, uplifted communities (e.g., healthier lifestyles, social inclusion, education/employment gains).

WHAT OUR PARTICIPANTS SAY

It makes a huge difference in people's life, for some people the sport is all they have, gives them a reason to keep going, gives them purpose in life, without that it would leave a huge void in a lot of people.

Powerchair Player

They go on Friday afternoon (to the After School Program) and usually attendance is quite low at school because the kids are tired and over it. But because they look forward to going to the After School program, the attendance seems to be a lot higher.

School Teacher

Bringing kids all together at one time - gives you a sense of belonging, they feel united, they feel part of Australia.

South Sudanese Father

Opens up opportunities for the Pacific Islander Community. Food vendors were initially hesitant now have thousands of followers and a growing business. Some new vendors are the result of the program.

Pacificast Coordinator

It's an opportunity to be in a professional environment, bring all into the elite group... Already have a bunch of girls to train in A-League and we have already signed one girl.

Girls Academy Coach

It keeps the youth off the streets and away from illicit substances.

African Cup Co-Ordinator
